It depends entirely on the weather; in winter, in the dark, I don't ride in the rain, neither when there's a frost (you only need one patch of ice, and if you can't see it...). So in bad weather, it's 0 miles.

In reasonable weather it's between 23 and 30 miles each weekday to work, 40 miles on Saturday morning, either Eastway series or a ride of some sort on Sunday morning. But I never actually hit 7 days, there's always something. Today I have to collect some stuff in town.

The last time I actually had an uninterrupted winter was 1998-9 Sad ever since then something or other has got in the way (injuries etc.). I'm hoping that this year's was 0 miles in October due to knee problems.

So, a long winded answer to a simple question; well under 100 historically, 100-150 realistically when problem-free, 200 the target.

I do road hours too. Then there's aerobic turbo time, rollers time, different levels drills and cadences, other sports (squash badminton etc), conditioning exercises and gym time too. Also recovery road time can be substituted with aerobic/drills rollers/turbo given bad wet or dotty dose (dis week Rolling Eyes ) But WTF this is a road forum.

Me too.

Can't meaningfully measure track sessions by distance...

But how can you meaningfully measure sessions by time? Like one day you may do an hour at some ridiculous intensity, the next freewheeling the whole way. (altho not on a fixed!)

October = zero training + lots of carbs Cool

November = look at the bike now and again and maybe ride to the newsagents on a sunday

December = plod around commuting

January = more plodding

February = plodding and the odd long ride if I can be Evil or Very Mad

March = race to get fit (ie - get a good kicking)

Jobsagoodun.

Simple, measure them by time and intensity. Not rocket science is it?

The same can be said of mileage..I used to rack up high mileage just cycling to the shops but I wouldn't call it training. Base fitness at a stretch.

I use TSS points,(ref:http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/defined.html) looking for 750/week. This combines intensity and volume to give a total score, letting me directly compare long road rides with short turbo efforts. It's set up for power monitor work, although I guess with a bit of work you can change the algorythm to work with heart rate which would allow you to include off-bike efforts. Of course, it always seems to come out at ~320km a week, which would be a simpler way of expressing things Smile

That's the whole point - you can measure what you really do (if you are into such anoraky things).

Time spent in certain training zones rather than just miles ridden.

I don't train that seriously, I just go hard when I feel like it, and VERY hard just before a taper for a race I want to do well in.

I use a bike for transport, so at ~35 miles per weekday (Unless it's really pi$$ing down), and maybe 80 miles on a Sunday bash, that's eeeerm... 255???
