Schwinn all the way.
Ridden by the recycling team the season before last who all liked their bikes. I assume you are looking at a fastback pro, which are excellent value for money and a great ride.
Get a bargain from long eaton cycle centre.

Schwin's are very common around my neck of the woods. That must mean something. I love mine - a real joy to ride.

James is right, talk to Tris or Rob at Long Eaton Cycle Centre. They sell both brands so can give you an unbiased opinion (maybe even a good price too). Both of them ride Schwin's.

Hey I know jack...

I train on a old Giant TCR, race a cannondale R700 with upgraded wheels and all I know about schwinn is that they make nice beach cruisers and that Orbea have made some bikes that haven't been too well put together.

But hey I'm new to the game
