He's also the pansy italian curly-haired nonce that split the group to pieces on the pave 2 years ago to set up Boonens win. Laughing

He could have a haircut like kojak or cousin it for all I care, the blokes a class rider. He'll be there in arenberg while your sat on your rrrs eating pork scratchings doing your armchair directeur bit.

Who's the nonce ?

According to his post race comments on cyclingnews he was stuffed and couldn't pull. He did a few pulls near the end of the break as that was the only time he could (apparently).

Agreed. Gent Wevelgem is one thing, PR against this field is something else.
Hammond has already finished 3rd at Roubaix as you well know. He has to be in with a shout, surely?

I think there's a Gulf the size of Africa between a runner up and a winner at PR. As good as Roger is, I think he'd need all the luck in the world to beat the likes of Ballan and Cancellara with their form

Its Paris - Roubaix; luck has a strange way of influencing this race Confused

I can see why you may all see why luck plays such a part especially after last year. However if you look at guys like Ballerini, Tchmil, Backstedt and even Cancellara last year, someone could have built a brick wall across the road and they would have still won.

Too right, there's never been a lucky winner in Roubaix.

I hope a small group rides into the velodrome and we get a sprint finish, between Boonen, Cancellara, Pozzato, Ballan and maybe Hammond. I'm going for Boonen.

Friere could be a good outside bet,

It's a long shot, but i'd like to see Flecha win he's been up there several times and clearly has the class to pull it off.

I think it will be quite an open race, Boonen has not been dominant as in recent years. Although, after his Flanders result he'll be motivated.

Luck is a huge part of PR, perhaps historically more than any other classic.

Bad luck eliminating people, not good luck enabling fluke winners. If you look back the overwhelming majority of winners are the very top riders of their times, not people exploiting a good chance on the day.

i disagree, he might look 'a bit too classy' but i reckon he's well capable of winning any classic tbh.

Leif Hoste - never seen him up in P-R recently which is odd considering how on form he is the week before
Van Peet - past it now and from the coverage I saw in Belgium last week his form is non-existent

See my comment about Hoste - he only stood on the podium last year due to the disqualification of the 3 above him.

Now Gusev and Vaitkus - ominously strong pair who are on form currently.

But then, with me being a keyboard warrior - what do I know?

But then, winning flanders convincingly is no indication of form for P-R so Ballan's got no chance of making the podium this weekend eh? Confused

My money's on ballan to do the double.

The double is such a rare thing though - only 3 people have managed it and we've been lucky to see two of them in recent years. before that it was about 25yrs +? since it had happened.
I don't doubt Ballan is on form but it is rare to even podium in both events in the same year. Like I said about Hoste - stood on the podium of Flanders 3 times in the past 4 years but seemingly nowhere in P-R.

I will gladly apologise if the podium is a combo of PVP, Hoste and Ballan but I can't see it myself. Don't discount people like Backstedt, Cancellara, Hammond, Boonen who have either won it or stood on the podium in the past 3 years.

But Hammond finished in the lead group sprinting for the win. That's not exactly a gulf is it? It's better than yates ever did and he got bigged up as a potential winner.

I'd love Roger to win it and his ride On wednesday suggests he has the legs. And after his bad luck of the last 2 springs he's due a bit of good luck surely?

I have gone with Margret Backstedt..... I think PR is a big gig for him and from what I read he was riding into some good form...

Too early for him I think. He is not back to full on, yet. Traditionally those who do well in GW do not do so well in PR, so this might not be Rogers year (but I still voted for him).
