re Eurosport commentary teams, there has been a lot of debate on various forums regarding this matter.

so if you wanted informed, accurate, easy to understand commentary for the Tour de France, who would you favour?

On a side note, i personally believe that D a v i d D u f f i e l d will spontaneously combust with sheer excitement at the London Start !!

On a final note, whilst we all criticise the named persons above at various points, you try doing the same job - and making it sound interesting.

Its not easy !!!!

I vote Harman cos Kelly who is the best in terms of knowledge is only the contributor not a main commentator.

Harman gets better all the time - good mix of excitement and genuine interest

I really enjoyed the Paris- Roubaix with Duffers and Kelly - Kelly is much improved since he seems to have woken up to the fact that he is there to add information/insight and not just watch the race go by!!

its easy to be critical but they do have personality and enthusiasm and bring a certain european flavour to the events

if you mixed them together you might get Keith Floyd! Very Happy

commentator swap would be good - how would Harman et al deal with the pace of cricket and how would Boycott/ Agnew step up to the cycling mark

eee's tekken a tumble that lad , ee wants to get up and stop fettling - ride his bike proper like ee's dad showed him in t'Vendee

this is a tough one as i think harmon does a very good job and kelly is good, partly due to his experience of racing. duffers was good, but getting past it (think having a co-commentator is a must for duffers, but his idiosyncratic style makes if hard to match one with him).

cristy does not impress me. especially considering her access to the riders.

In the right balance, i think they all have something to offer, perhaps variety is the way forward !!??

Regardless of who, if any emerge as the great favourites, its all academic if Eurosport continue to blow out the top one day cycle races for alternative "sports" . . . .

I ticked David Harmon. He's one of the best commentators around and can identify riders in a split second, as well as being sharp enough to inject some dry wit when things get dull or coverage starts to go wrong.

Spending seven hours of a mountain stage listening to Christi talk about who she met at the start line that day comes a close second. No really.

Currently DH is the best UK commentator. SK is excellent for reading the race and filling in detail. Krusty is simply not worth the money.
And commentating is a difficult job, I can speak from experience, and it's a lot tougher when you have to work from a monitor strapped down in a freezing/boiling little media cabin somewhere surrounded by all kinds of racket.
Mind, if you want total expertise, try French or Belgian/Dutch commentators....then they do a lot more work and have the chance to become *CENSORED*.

David Harmon with Alan Peiper as pundit. Great last year when they teamed up a couple of times but highly unlikely now Peiper is a DS

I used to really like their commentary, but the last time I heard them was in 2003 for ESPN while I was abroad.

I just couldn't stand their style anymore. Always referring to the TDF as 'the bike race' and lance armstrong as 'this man is the greatest bike rider in the world' after his cyclo cross down the mountain to avoid beloki on the tarmac.

Puuurleeease!

There's no doubt its a tough job and all the commentators have there good and bad points. Duuffers does get a lot of stick but on those long flat stages in the tour he is quite amusing on about wine and cheese, but when its hots up and you want sound information Harmons the main man.
