|
|
We are hoping to bring back the old traditional style Lowdham Chaingang this year as soon as the clocks go forward.
So from Wednesday 2nd April 2008 at 6.30pm from Lowdham Island running throughout the summer as interest remains each Wednesday evening at 6.30pm.
It will be the old Lowdham, Thurgarton, Bleasby, Averham, Upton, Southwell, Oxton Back, Oxton to return to Lowdham (24.3miles). Which can be seen here in better detail http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-kingdom/nottingham/182072127
If required when the nights get lighter we can turn up to Northgate and come back along the Olllerton Road to finish up Dorkit Head (Lime Lane).
Everyone who is prepared to tap through and treat it as a traditional 'thro and off' chaingang will be welcome.

Looks good Windy. I do think it will need looping around going through the center of Southwell. _________________ ''Racing is life, anything before or after is just waiting''..... Steve McQueen. |

It's been discussed, possibly a right turn after the petrol station then past the fire station to turn left later on and join the bottom of Oxton Bank. (Don't know the names of the roads off the top of my head). It's six of one, half a dozen of the other, we either do two right turns and proceed over a mini island, not in that order, or either take a break in proceedings to take it easy through Southwell and start again on the way out.
The surface through Bleasby is rough and tricky so please take caution through there, as with the other small villages we pass through. _________________ Hoping the race organiser will give me a postcode to find the headquarters hidden in the wilderness.

Don't think it would be too big a problem going through Southwell - half a mile or so taking it steady isn't really a problem is it? _________________ Blame me for robbing Peter but don't you blame Paul |

It willl be getting on for 6.45pm anyway? I've also had requests for an earlier start time as well by a couple of people who finish work earlier and want to get out and back sooner. Too many people have been told 6.30pm now. When the nights get lighter and if there is enough call for changing it, then it can be considered.
The day and time was given to accomodate the local 10's in the area, Mallory Park Races and the Leisure Lakes chaingang. Unfortunately it does clash with the Forest Town track league and I apologise for that. It's a choice, there is something for everyone in the evenings in the week so hopefully we'll all be happy.
Lets be honest here, previous attempts to bring back the Lowdham (Bulcote) chaingang have failed so it's quite possible this may go the same way. _________________ Hoping the race organiser will give me a postcode to find the headquarters hidden in the wilderness.
