A cpu (processor) is hard ware, its a silicon chip.MSN is a program it can only affect the things on your hardrive.Would a progam give'en out to Millions of computers be allowed to mess up your computer dont think so.There is only one virus that can seriosly mess up the hardware on you computer. It writes over the CMOS chip on the motherboard and makes it usless. The most likely way of wrecking your processor is if your fan fails and you burn the silicon to a crisp.

Win2000 has a cpu use monitor. Running MSN takes up very little cpu time/memory.

dad aint going to like that tone digger. he'll probably use one of his catchphrases such as

"dont look at me in that tone of voice"
or
"Who do you think you are?"

The second question has no known answers that dont result in a slap

questions been answered NO effect on CPU

There is a win2000 service "messenger" that is sometimes incorectly associated with MSN.

If you want to stop those annoying pop-up messages then stop this service.

Martin is right on this, if you have broadband as well you get loads of IP pop up messages, to switch this off (in XP anyway), click on start, run and type in SERVICES.MSC, press enter then look for a service called MESSENGER, double click on it and select startup type DISABLED, then click on the STOP button, then click on OK and bye bye IP popups! This does not stop Internet explorer popups though. DON'T MESS WITH ANY OTHERS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE! Twisted Evil

As for MSN messenger..... it does not touch the CPU at all in terms of processing unless you have a Intel 66DX2??? Rolling Eyes Install some more memory as it is probably that which is causing slow performance. Exclamation

Actually Digger, Microsoft are always releasing programs that knacker your computer!!! Win98SE, Win95, Win ME, Win XP just to name a few and that is just the operating systems!!!! Just look at all the patches that have been released for these over the past few years and they were responsible for letting the recent spate of viruses attack your machine because of HOLES in their OS which they KNEW about and did not warn the world.... Laughing Laughing Laughing I made loads of money then cleaning up computers!!!! Wink Oh how I yearn for the good old days of MS DOS 5, now that was a cool piece of software!....

End of Rant about MS.... Shocked Shocked Shocked
