We'd love the East Midlands evening league to return, in fact any extra events, because as pointed out without the 50km motor racing circuit events of Mallory and Darley we have relatively nothing.
As Stephen's dad has pointed out there are no shortage of circuits. In my first year with Mapperley they even ran one on the Oxton/Northgate/Longdale junction (now RAB)/Oxton circuit. Then when I was at Mansfield RC we used the Oxton/Oxton Bank/Cooks Lane/Farnsfield/White Post circuit where Richard Prebble romped off to victory. I'm sure some of the older Sherwood guys on here can add more.
An East Midlands pool of volunteers for marshalls/helpers/drivers etc. Is a fantastic idea where people can give their time and help when available in the success of events. Even as a rider (albeit getting on a bit) I'd put my name down to help out when available, as no doubt many other family members and friends would. |
This is something i'm working on.
A 'Help The Organisers' booklet. The idea is to have a list of names of all those who are willing to help out at events in the East Mids region, a list of East Mids Commissaires, experienced organisers who are happy to be contacted to give advice or a general chat.
If you would like to be included in the booklet please send me a pm and i'll send you more info. |

Could a version of it go online on the East Midlands section of VR...then it could be continuously updated? _________________ 'You are a free woman. You will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed (that you should be so lucky ) or numbered. Your life is your own.' |

One of the problems we had, the last time we ran a road race in 2006, was getting a commissaire. The list supplied by BC was out of date and we were on the verge of cancelling until Jon Hunt's mate Paul Thomson (aka Thomo) from Milton Keynes stepped in to help. |

In light of the Regional Champs struggling to find enough marshalls (thankfully we now have plenty) may i take this opportunity to ask you all to consider being part of the Organisers Booklet.
The booklet will be an aid to all Event Organisers within the East Midlands Region.
One of the chapters will include a list of those who are willing to help out at events - from catering and signing on to marshalling.
Please don't think - oh it's ok somebody will do it - if we all think that a lot of events could face cancellation.
If you do agree to your name being in the booklet, it will not mean you are obligated to help at every event. You will still have the right to tell an organiser you are unavailable for that day.
However it will give the organiser a heads up regarding who may be able to help.
Please let's not see another organiser have the worry i've had or see another event face cancellation.
Just to let you know - I've spoken to a few organisers, all of whom have said the Booklet would help them out and when will it be available. |
