Hi, I'm 52 and live in South Derbyshire (Gresley) and I've just recently rediscovered cycling. I'm looking for an informal group to go out riding with in my local area.

I think if you had called yourself 'Tykegirl' and put your age down as anywhere between 15 and 45 you would have been bombarded with offers by now. Very Happy

Such is the se xist and ageist nature of the posters on this board Wink Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Ideally you would be blonde , curvy and about 25 Very Happy

Be patient you will get some sensible answers eventually. When you say informal would a club run be acceptable or are you looking more for a touring type group?

I'm not interested in racing, more the touring I'd say. I've been looking round at the local clubs and they all sound a bit too serious to me.

Just a small group of people I could call and organise a ride at short notice sort of thing.

CTC might be more your type of riding although they can be quite serious about mileage and are a bit on the political side.

Otherwise possibly a phone call to one of the local cycling clubs to see if they do a more leisure type ride. Some do.

If you have a proper bike shop nearby (rather than Halfords type places) that might be a good call, as they will have contact with most of the local clubs and should be happy to put you in touch with one that suits your riding.

I'll try the CTC and there is a good bike shop in Swadlincote (Lloyds), I'll have a look in there.

Might be worth giving the clubs a second look - they might appear geared up purely for racers but typically most have plenty of other members and plenty of informal group rides going on.

Sherwood CC have a gentle ride on Sundays and Wednesdays if you wanted to travel over to Lowdham. I agree with Tom B, most clubs have a "just like riding their bikes" section.

Also Audax might be worth a try.

I just got back from a 19-mile circuit on the Derbyshire-Lecestershire border (taking in Ashby, Packington, Measham, Acresford, Netherseal and Overseal) which I did at an average speed of 16.3mph (I've got one of those little trip computers). I wouldn't want to do much more than that of an evening (maybe 30 miles) but I'd be looking at 50 miles for a weekend run, probably averaging 10-12mph.

There are a few guys in Derby Merc go out for a steady ride Saturday mornings at 9am - not a club run as such just something arranged informally - might be a bit far away for you but if interested post on the club website forum - can't remember the URL but should be easy to google.

cc giro do a thing called "park n ride" from the rosliston forestry centre.
Saturday mornings I think, a swift google should see you right.
Not really sure about other clubs ashby/tamworth way.
As has been said ctc or everyday cycling are good places to start.

I've recently moved into Donisthorpe and am looking at getting a small group together for a gentlish training/club run.

Also if you pop into Just bikes in Ashby the are trying to get names together to see if its worth trying to start a cycling club in Ashby.

If you want any more info just PM me
