Hi

I was thinking of getting my bike totally stripped down, cleaned, regreased etc. after Christmas. Can anyone recommend anywhere that is particularly good and how much I should be looking to spend.

If it makes a difference its a 9 speed road bike.

Cheers

TS Bikes (aka Long Eaton Cycle Centre) in erm, Long Eaton. There are two branches, the one on Tamworth Road and another one in the industrial estate on the other side of the town centre.

I asked a similar question the other week and was recommended there.

As a mildly entertaining aside, since we're talking about bike shops on this side of the N'ham, Halfords in Chilwell did the following in building up my 'bike to work' bike:

- saddle at absurd angle (really a very minor consideration indeed)
- front derailleur too far to the right (i.e. chain comes straight off as soon as you put it on the big ring)
- rear derailleur about 0.75 of a click too far to the right (so it sort of worked, but never threatened the 23 sprocket and was always a bit off where it was meant to be)
- brakes set up about 3 inches from the rim, pads at an angle and very slightly rubbing the tyres when pulled shut
- steerer cut off at some height, chosen by someone somewhere
- various bolts not greased
- ridiculous reflectors bolted onto rear spoke, seatpost and handlebars

and this was signed off as 'safe to ride'. Shocked .

As a mild aside, my ex landlord was the manager of that store, and after closing time me and him used to race the bikes round the displays in a crit stylee. He once took out an anti-freeze display trying to get round me

You could also try Cycle Inn at Beeston on 0115 925 6647 better known as Sid Standards.
Speak to Kev, he's been sorting me out for years (phner!)
Its just round the corner from the Police station.

that's quality, when i worked at another halfords store years ago we used to do the same thing, normally on the kids bikes or the 'toy' range of scooters tractors.
