Or mine, actually. Many moons ago I tore the cartlidge in my hip, plus had possible arthritis in the same joint. A fairly major operation followed, whereby the tear was repaired, and the joint smoothed - it turned not be arthritis, but a 'bumpy bone growth' of some sort.
4 months of not weight bearing on that hip followed, and my already skinny legs became even less burdened with muscle. 14 months on from that attempts on my part to reintroduce exercise have resulted in very similar pain/discomfort in the same joint.
Back to the hospital, another MRI scan, which was inconclusive. Apparently, due to the nature of the repair, it could be still 'repaired' but also pulling and causing the pain.
I now have a choice; live with hip as is - knowing my ability to train will be hampered and I may never be able to get particularly fit, or have another op (a smaller one this time; keyhole) and have the cartlidge removed, I should be fairly pain free, although my joint is certain to degrade rapidly, especially if I do a fair amount of training.
So, carry on with my current syptoms, never really getting very fit, or take a risk on another op, be able to train to a higher level, but with a time limit on it....
The choice, as they say, is .. well .. mine
All views, within reason, welcome... _________________

Forget the training/racing aspect - think about the rest of your life. If you think you are going to suffer post 40 by having the op, then dont have it.
I would also look to find a good Physio, and look to improve the issue by working on the relevant muscles. _________________ Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

With cycling being a non impact sport I would have thought it was probably less harmful than tennis or football etc, even walking. As Stotti says find a good Physio and maybe even get a second opinion on further treatment from a spe cia list. The NHS sometimes think if you can stagger out under your own steam they have fulfilled their obligations. _________________ I was being chased by a police dog last week, and made the mistake of trying to escape through a little tunnel, over a see-saw and through a hoop of fire. It finally caught me as I was weaving in and out of some sticks. |
