bet I could have managed it Wink

not to take anything away from McCann but it would have been interesting to see what times Wiggo and Miller would have done...

He's up against Bradley in a few days time.

So he's riding for Ireland at the WC's is he? But he gets the British record as he is from Northern Ireland. Confusing. I presume it's because Cycling Ireland includes NI. Or something.

I'd be more interested to see what Cancellara would have done. Big lad too, would go downhill better than those skinny boys. Long 43 I reckon.

It's not a British Record - it's Competition Record. CTT is only England&Wales anyway remember, but anyone from outside those countries is eligible if they have a UCI-affiliated license.

I see, so Cancellara could come over and do 42 and get comp record?
As for McCann I presume that NI riders ride for Ireland or do they have a choice? Michael Hutchinson has raced for GB I think in the past.

Hutch rode for NI in the Commonwealths. McCann could do the same. I'm not so sure that Hutch could ride for Ireland at the Worlds mind.

I'm pretty sure that Ireland still gives citizenship to anyone born north of the border who wants it (which of course splits down religious lines); qualification to compete for Ireland has always been a bit of a joke anyway, in all sports, one grandparent would be enough. I could have got an Irish passport myself by marrying an Essex girl if her mother had ever gone to the effort of establishing her paternity, but the old lass got a bit funny about acknowledging her Irish heritage during the Troubles. My kids could then have qualified for GB/England, Ireland, Belgium or Italy...

was it on that downhill welsh course.... R25-summat?

Yes - 4.2 miles of downhill (some of it gently sloping). On the other side relatively traffic free so no inflated speed on the rest of the course though.

Good conditions yesterday so I'm surprised Hutch didn't beat the record given he was close the other week in far from ideal conditions.

Oh and yes Wiggo and Cancellara would probably do a 42 or 43.

Did anything come of the "old school" series?
