It has been a busy few months for Gloucestershire’s Senior Sports Team of 2009. Velo Club Montpellier have been hard at work putting the final touches to their 2010 elite racing team. The team, who will comprise of Russell Falder, Lewis Cowley, Colin Parry and Wayne Coombs (Team Captain), will be entering the 2010 season with great anticipation.
Last year’s elite team had a number of successes winning the local Cotswold cycle racing league, the Castle Combe summer race series and had an unprecedented high number of top ten placings in national elite races. This year’s team will be hoping to once again build on these achievements. This year, they will introduce three very promising 1st cat riders, two of which will be under 23 espoir riders.
They will be aiming to compete in most of this year’s televised British Cycling Premier Calendar Series, as well as some of country’s other top elite races. Their first major target of the season will be the local 38th Severn Bridge Road Race (7th March).
Team captain Wayne Coombs is very excited about taking the team forward into the 2010 season. He said:
“The team will have a different focus this year. We will once again be a small unit of riders but I think this will work in our favour and give a greater team emphasis. Each member will be looking to place well in the Premiers and will be seeking to be one of the most consistent road teams in the south region.”

The elite team will also be supported by the rest of VCM in local races. Two riders who will be keen to progress in the 2010 season will be 2nd cat Richard Cook and ever present climber, Neil Biggs.
Another new signing for VCM this year is junior rider Conor Ryan (Son of ex-Gloucester Rugby coach Dean Ryan). Conor will be targeting the national junior series and is currently being coached by ex-pro Julian Winn.
