A new cafe has opened up on the vale, dove cottage tearoom, is on can al lane near stathern, it is well signposted from either end of the lane.
A viable alternative to the much maligned sedgebrook, and cyclists are very welcome.
It is run by volunteers to raise funds for a nearby hospice so is well worth a visit, at least once.
Large coffee and a very respectable slab of fruit cake £2.90 Cool
A word of warning it's entrance is just over a blind crested hump back bridge, be very careful of cars/pedestrians on the other side, also look out for your ride leader braking heavily. Wink Rolling Eyes

visited dove cottage again today, new items on menu set "teas" pot of tea and cake £3.00, Pot of tea, choice of sandiches, cake £4.00, pot of tea, choice of sandwiches, cake and scones cream and jam £5.00. The latter appearing to be verging on total gluttony.
The cake is like your mum used to make, and it's proper cup of tea/coffee not something out of the dishwasher. Get yourselves over there, you know you want to Wink

Dave 1, yes I am sure they do a range of upper class teas to suit your venerable palate. There is however a choice of hills on the way back that might be less to your liking.
Dave 2, no sorry this is not in *CENSORED*, but you would be more than welcome any time matey. Give me a shout next time you're up in Nottingham.

Finally got to Dove Cottage tea room today and can highly recommend it. My wife & myself did a good walk checking out some off road routes for cycling next time we visit, and enjoyed a very good lunch ( including a generous pot of Earl grey!! Laughing )

If Others haven't been yet, I suggest you do.

Incidentally, the chap there said he opened tins of beans in anticipation of a group of cyclists turning up the other weekend, so that he would be quick of the mark ( he had had regular visits in previous weeks) - unfortunately no one came that day! .... he had beans for tea.
If you are a large group intending to call there one weekend, perhaps a phone call wouldn't go amiss.

Was in there yesterday, with canon dale. It was a bit quiet, the little old ladies were saying that last sunday (I know it was piggin awful) only four people called in all day.
Amazing value for money, very clean and pleasant surroundings, and it's for charity. Get yerselves out there Wink

Last time I went on a Sunday, it was rammed - though that was in the summer. The Sherwood easy run (The Budgie Run!) goes there on a Saturday sometimes.

Dove Cottage tea rooms and shop is 1 year old today Smile Spoke to one of the volunteers who told me that they are about to present £37,000 to the hospice from the first years trading. This will pay for two nurses to provide respite care in patients homes when they are too ill to go to the cottage. Very Happy

Now on summer opening times 10.30 - 4.30 so no excuse not to go and spend a few pennies in a fantastic cause, and the cakes are great as well. apparently the queues were out the door last sunday so it pys to get there early.

Climbing frame currently being built in the garden, but I think it is meant for children Twisted Evil
