|
|
Just for any lurkers who are not aware the Beeston chaingang has a new set up.
The traditional run is nice and steady, however when faster riders join in willy nilly it can muck it up and leave people all over the place.
So it now rolls out at 6.45 from Attenborough lights and down the warren at a steady pace to warm up and have a chat, then if a small group fancy clipping off the front for a slightly brisker ride the natural break happens on the little rise by the Station pub. This then leaves two distinct groups who both get a ride and everybodys happy. Simples.
Probably not my place to post this being a relative newcomer, only ridden on it infrequently for three years!
Cheers

How do u choose the split?
Past experience has taught me everyone fancies themselves in the faster group, very few would openly choose otherwise. |

Is this different to the Leisure Lakes 6.45 chaingang or the same thing ? |

Magnier it works fine as I think the original Beeston chaingang has always been a steadier affair, its well disciplined and nice and smooth with everybody able to take a turn.
Tom, this is a different one from Leisure Lakes which tends to degenerate more into a race depending on who turns out so that takes care of the ones who fancy a real burn up.
The two speed Beeston run now offers a speed somewhere in the middle, luxury really! |

Went on this last night. I would say the LL 'gang' is definitely faster, (depending on mood and who turns up!!) but then I think generally smaller (?) but with more of the work shared.
Having said that, 'Ox' was very reserved but when he puts the hammer down it's like sitting behind a motorbike....but then we used to do that as well..!! _________________ I RIDE, THEREFORE I AM!! |

It wasn't me....honest.....
Sat on 'Ox'..... or tried to.. Awesome!! Great work out. Surprisingly he took the sprint from the front into Wilford . Don't know the speed as I was hallucinating for most of it... Ignore most of my above post _________________ I RIDE, THEREFORE I AM!! |

Well, never much of a chain in the gang eh?
Don't understand why with a long straight road ahead people have to come thru from 4/5/6th wheel when it just lines out and stays that way yet with 150 yds before a right turn or the 300yds between the islands on the 52 people 'ping' thru like 'pingy things' opening gaps everywhere. The little rise up to the lights on the way back is another favourite where we almost always have to stop.
Surely it's a dead giveaway that when no one is on the wheel of the man coming thru the chain is over.
Is it the route?
The 'old' 52 route was always much a much smoother chaingang. Is it because there were less interruptions. What does everyone else think? _________________ I RIDE, THEREFORE I AM!! |

Wheezer you are wrong, it's the best ego training around !!
While the main ambition remains to make each other suffer and turn it into a war of attrition it won't be much of a chain gang at all. Lacks the control I'm afraid. |

The Beeston chaingang used to be the best in England , you could get 3 or 4 pro's and around 10 Internationals on a average night , and you'd get a slap if you stepped out of line , two many fu(kwits on chaingangs these days who dont give other riders Respect . _________________ Clay cross RT www.claycrossrt.co.uk

It was s***e tonight....no body coming thro, tried to slow it up...still no one came thro, rolled off the front right to the back rode upto the front steady to give them a wheel.......no takers.(usual suspects only)
Everyone should come thro and do a turn....it's not been fast,
My suggestion is a little pep talk at the start...or all stay together as the old boys can at least ride in a chain gang!
Maybe the 52 would be good for a change.......although not many islands |

For me it was just going too fast at times so if it was lined out I couldn't get to the front, I did try a few times to ride up the line steady but nobody followed. Maybe if we back off a bit first to get it rolling, then build up the speed, I've no idea. As a lot of us seem to be muttering the same thing maybe it shouldn't be that hard to sort, leave the racers dangling off the front.
We need an enforcer! |

On the Little Eaton one we've got 3 groups going on Tuesday - they are all through and off (not perfect but not bad) because everyone can ride in a group depending on what they want/can handle. We've even got a few young riders coming out now - 14 year olds up - one or two are getting close to being able to do the fast group. Seems popular as we've been getting 40 plus on a Tuesday.
We set the fast group off first, medium second and steady last - otherwise people always jumped on the back of the faster groups as they came past but couldn't contribute. I don't know about having enforcers - there are one or two that will shout a bit which does help a bit.
Thursdays is a bit different - fewer numbers so we normally just do one or two groups and let it split naturally on the hill - there are always a few at the back who will ride together and sweep up stragglers rather than getting shelled out in ones and twos. |

And a damn good training ride all year round- especially for those of us racing cross and the like. Sounds like the Long Eaton one has quite a few riders who want a steady ride and not a proper hard workout during the winter? Some sit in sprinters by the sounds of things... _________________ www.chargebikes.com |

Tuesday was much smoother, not fast but smooth. This was achieved by making the 'drive' line the inside line and the recovery on the outside. That way when the front man pulls off he can continue to 'tap off' untill the 2nd wheel can drift thru and so on.
Not rocket science but it works!!
And it's easier to shout at those not doin' it right.
Have fun tonight
