VC Lincoln has become East Midland's First Go-Ride Clubmark Club
VC Lincoln, organisers of the International Lincoln Grand Prix, has become the first Go-Ride club in the East Midlands to achieve Go-Ride Clubmark Accreditation.
Go-Ride Clubmark Accreditation incorporates Sport England's Clubmark standard, which is rapidly becoming the national kitemark for quality sports clubs. The club has been hard at work over the past few months, working in partnership with Jonathan Day, Regional Manager for the East Midlands, to complete the necessary paperwork, attend essential club development workshops and put into place fundamental coaching and organisational practices to ensure the club meets with Clubmark's minimum standards.
The club has an active 'Young Guns' section, with a coaching and competitive activities going on all year round, in and around the purpose-built Yarborough closed road circuit.
Go-Ride Club Contact, Gavin Daley said, "The club is delighted to achieve the British Cycling Go-Ride Clubmark accreditation, we have worked extremely hard over the past 12 months to provide an inclusive environment for young people to ride bikes. The accreditation will give us a great boost and it will help us to raise the profile of the club in the local community. A lot of hard work has gone into gaining this award and we are extremely proud to be the first club to achieve the accreditation in the East Midlands Region".
British Cycling’s Regional Manager Jonathan Day is equally delighted with the news, as it will enable British Cycling to award Go-Ride Clubmark to the club at the Lincoln Grand Prix on 7th May. Jonathan said, "The club is the first accredited Go Ride club in the region and that is testament to the efforts of those that have been the driving force behind the process. Go-Ride Clubmark accreditation recognises clubs that provide safe, progressive and inclusive cycling opportunities for young people. Velo Club Lincoln are an excellent club that provide weekly opportunities for youngsters to get involved in cycling. There are clear pathways for youngsters to progress from taster coaching sessions through to competition. I would personally like to congratulate the club on this fantastic achievement. The future looks extremely bright for Velo Club Lincoln".
