Laughing And you're doing it again tomorrow!

Results for Team VR after Tucker's 3rd place today?

Um, can we call it "2nd loser"? It motivates me more.

I'll type a report on Monday because it means I'm getting paid to do it. Needless to say Rob rocked my world.

Way back we all rode fixed in time trials on the basis that it was considered better than gears on flat courses, which nearly all of them were.

Having ridden gears in the IOM Mountain TT, I still opted to use my track bike, also ridden in the IOM week, in a '25' near Liverpool on the way back. This entailed a mechano-like contraption to fit a front brake on a pure track frame, but understanding that it was the law of the land to have a brake as well as a fixed wheel, with the latter considered a brake.

So is a normal brake in addition to fixed a legal requirement or is it just a CTT rule?

The couriers in London appear to get away with only fixed without being stopped by the police, so perhaps it is not the law. Does any VR know for certain?

Can't believe that the law permits less than one real brake and a lockringed fixed, but you'll have to search online for the Highway Code, Construction and Use regs etc, 'cos I'm not.

It doesn't, its just the police can't be arsed stopping people on "fixies" in London and the like.

IIRC, the law requires that any vehicle using the road must have two independent means of stopping, and on a fixed bike, the pedals count as one mechanism for stopping, hence only the need for a front brake, and why cars have front and rear brakes too. Razz

Any good 25mile courses that'd suit a fixed near Swindon/same locality as the U47? Any events coming out that I should look out for?
