CTT championship 25 if you please. Not worthy of the 'National' title as they're not allowing the best rider to ride.

RTTC Championship if you are being picky... Rolling Eyes and the best qualified rider has entered*.
They would allow the best rider to ride if they had bothered entering and had fulfilled the entry qualification, but even Alex Dowsett tried and failed to get accepted as he didn't qualify. Alex knew he might not get in right from the start and it was a gamble he was prepared to take.

*Sorry - Dave McCann hasn't entered either, so Hutch is the next best who has entered.

I reckon about 50% must be on something to keep them "regular" by now.

You'd think that a 48' and 7th place in the World Championships would be qualification enough. But no the CTT have this arcane rule and they're sticking by it Rolling Eyes

If he had done that 48 since 1 Jan last year we wouldn't be having this problem. But he hasn't.
It's not an arcane rule - it's the rules everyone in the sport uses and they are reviewed constantly by the members. No-one thinks that rule is a problem. Even Alex.

The only problem is that CTT obviously don't want to be taken seriously outside of their world, don't want to see the best riders in their events and seem to believe that this is for the best.

All of this is fine as long as CTT believe it's in the best interests of it's sport.

I can't see at all how you came to that conclusion... and couldn't be further from the truth. Your prejudiced views of time trialling in general seems to have meant you are seeing things that don't exist.

I don't have a prejudiced view any more than you do.

Simple question, is it in the sport's (ie time trialling) best interests to exclude someone who did a sub 50 minute ride in the past 18 months from what purports to be a national title?

Well there you go. He has not done a 25 at all in the last 18 months... otherwise he would be in the event. He therefore has not been excluded - he simply has not qualified when more than the field limit has done, which is a different thing entirely.

The 25 this year is a non-event

I'm not disagreeing with you, as you say the rules are clear and they have been stuck to.

Read the question...

Read the question...
If a rider who has done a sub 50 minute CTT 25 in the qualifying period starting 1 Jan the previous year had entered the CTT National Championship 25 then they would not have been excluded because of that. So therefore everyones interests are satisfied.
And it is a National title - it does not purport to be anything else.
Does that answer your question?
I added a few words just to make it clear what we are talking about here.

Read the replies on the other forum and here.

Besides the question wouldn't apply to this years event as none of that has happened. No rider who entered with a sub 50 minute qualifying ride would ever have his entry rejected on that basis (and none have this year), and no-one would deny that if such a thing happened it would be good for the sport.

Maybe you need to rephrase the question then - as I believe it has been asnwered adequately the way it has been asked.

I don't think I do.

All you've said is that the rules have been applied by the book and therefore everything is fine and dandy.

Put the rule book down for a moment... Surely any organisation (regardless of what it does) should first and foremost be concerned with operating in a way that is in its own best interests. If we presume that that's right, read the question again and answer it.

In the meantime I'll have a burger. Very Happy
