Don't forget he rode for BIC 2000 last year, a DN1 espoirs team in Brittany. After a shaky start he managed some top 10 finishes, and that is quite an achievement at this level. So he's got the ability, and must have become more tactically aware whilst riding in this team. It was being over here on his own that was the hard bit, as many have found out before. But at least he gave it a go. Hopefully something better will turn up, but times look like being tough, so better to just ride what you can, enjoy it, your only young once

| Back when I was still stupid enough to ride these things, we had Curran, Boardman and Longbottom battling it out, although there were always specialists as well (just found the 1987 result sheet, also featuring one M. Stephens of the Hemel Hempstead CC) |

On Rosedale Chimney I seem to remember....damp surface, 1 in 3 sections...lovely... |

There have been a lot of hill climb chimps who can't climb a humpback bridge in a road race. The reason being that you have to get to the climb in good nick then climb it. Hill climbs are like 12 hours and trike racing, a peculiar British pastime. |

What does Matt Clinton need? He needs desire , the want to win above all else.
He has got an excellent engine - like a diesel. But if I can beat him in sprints when I haven't raced properly for a while its not looking good is it?
Will he practice his sprints?
I heard it from Matt that in a race last year he was in a 3 man break and didn't contest the sprint because he reckoned it was pointless.
I watched Matt ride the West Midlands Divisional Road Race one year from the passenger seat of Pete Mooney's car on the Clough Tops course. After doing some hard turns on the front, Matt pushed another rider up a hill, blew and only just got back onto the back of the bunch. Can't say I was impressed.
He says that this year he wants to win a race - if he does , it'll be long overdue.
I would say a bit of self belief wouldn't go a miss - but its amazing what that first win of the season does for one's self belief.
So come on Clintonian!
