|
|
I'm thinking of using my track bike for time trialing, is it road legal and race legal with just a front break?
Also, are there any particular events (particularly 10s) that are reasonably flat and suitable for racing a fixed in the Wiltshire area - particularly near Swindon.
Thanks! |

Yes, as done by Graeme Obree until very recently.
Obree broke a very hilly course record in Scotland on a fixed so any dual carriageway course should be fine for you if you're strong. |

If you have a lockring, definitely. And quite possibly even if you don't.

Never done the U47 but it's fast so presumably flat. |

The Swindon RC club 10s every Thursday night are on a fairly flat course - the U47, which I presume is the DC course, is pan-flat. |

The evening 10 is on U48 (back road parallel to the dual carriage way that's the U47). Pretty much as flat, but road surface isn't good so quite a bit slower I think |

No. 77 refers to the number of whole seconds. |

By contrast, last year I did a 20 in one event of my club's evening 10 series, on the tough E16.
26-20 I think it was _________________ "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." H. L. Mencken

Nah, I was talking 'ever'
I never was any good at TT's, though did not ride many fast courses. Way back on 01 May 1962, Jim Grieves and myself (both riding for Helyett-Cinzano) as training, rode the Rugby Velo Club evening '10'. It was held on the lumpy A426, starting before Draycote Reservoir, heading to Southam and had a dead turn, just beyond the Stockton crossroads. Jim won with 24-25 and myself on 25-05.
Not sure whether it was that same night but Stan Brittain (Stan was 'real quick') rode one, on the same course, and clocked around 23-30. These days the club uses K10 versions and a few top riders have been sub 20. My last year's best was 28-16. The only slightly 'consoling' statistic was that it gave me a +4-14 on Vets Std. Other than that it was SLOW!
Enough history |

Yeah, but your bike probably weighed about a tenth of a metric ton and only had half a gear. |
