Then rinse with water to remove the washing up liquid, and then WD40 to get rid of the water, and then oil to lubricate...........

back when I worked int eh industry, we used to have a couple of old water bottles...fill them to say 25% with muc off, drop chain in, leave for 5 mins, shake vigorusly, leave for 5 mins, shake vigourously then rinse in stupidly hot water, shake, leave hot water to evaporate, and then towel dry.
Super clean chain.
Don't leave for too long in muc off... the chains don't like it.
These days, I am prone to rubbing the chain with a cloth when on the big chain ring. I'll do this say 5 times and then throw the chain away. |

what the Spreadsheet King of Swindon said. Get a jerry can full of the stuff for a fiver and then pour enough out into a separate container which you can use to dab on with a paintbrush. If you stick the brush in the sprockets and turn the chainset backwards you get a clean chain, clean sprockets and clean rear mech for minimal effort. For extra FLAIR do the chainrings (both sides) and front mech.
Done properly you should be able to clean a race bike in about 10mins and have it sparkling.
If you've got the time, take the chain and wheels off for a thorough job. Even then 30mins should be enough _________________ "Veloriders - Sounds like a bunch of soccer holigans still watching reruns of Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter" |

Yep! Its a water rinsable degreaser - primarily used in the automotive industry.
Cleans the chain, cassette & mechs brilliantly! |

Thanks Rich, i pretty much follow that cleaning regime (with the jizer) and the petrols about 1/3 the cost of the jizer so that sounds like a good bet. |

I'm going ot get flamed here but WD40 strips off most grease with the help of an old toothbrush and a rag. _________________ Have you got any Triple Sod? Yellow Bentines? What about some Clarky Cat? |

Wouldn't Diesel be better than petrol? It will leave a little lubrication in the chain journals. |

Yes, Odge has been bollocked for that before, petrols the last thing you want to use to clean your chain, well, other than baby wipes. |

Dunno, but after washing off the petrol one lubes up with dedicated lube afterwards. |

And if the dedicated lube can't get into the journals? |
