It loses a lot of the essence of the race by not finishing on the Via Roma...

I remember watching Voeckler fight to keep the yellow jersey in the tour a few years ago, he looked just like a kid on a bike with no style but obviously very talented. Then a couple of years ago we watched the GP Plouay over in Brittany which he won on his own by about a minute,now looking a class act in every sense of the word.  |
Voeckler will be gutted from losing the last stage at Nice last Sunday, but had the form on that day and the previous stage, so maybe. Can he descend fast enough as that used to be the way to win years ago?

I don't think that makes any difference to the race. When it finished on the Corso Cavalotti it did. The attacks had more chance of making it to the finish because there was only 1km of flat after the Poggio descent e.g. when Kelly won in 92.

The new finish is pretty sterile in comparison.
