|
|
Hi there
maybe something for the discussion section but try here, I've been wondering what the benefit is to racing with deep rim (40/50) carbon wheels.
I've got an excellent pair of Dtswiss hand builts but got the chance to race on some deep rim carbons, not sure what the benefits will except for looking good. |

On a related note just got hold of an old ZIPP rear wheel on Shimano 8 speed. I'd like to change the hub to 10 speed. Any idea of a good place to send it to be rebuilt? _________________ mug source code table remote plate magazine gel |

If its Shimano 8 it will take a shimano 10spd cassette won't it? |

Benefit-deep carbon wheels while be more aero than your DTs but not as much as you might think, they will be lighter but as they are Zipps they will be less reliable and more expensive to fix when you break them, which you will at some point. The DTs will be heavier but much stronger and more reliable. With the state of the roads up here chose where to use the Zipps carefully. _________________ 'Beast from the North East' Coops

Must admit I cant see any benefit with the state of the roads and the fact I'll never get away on my own unless its off the back,
Still riders with posh wheels yesturday, they must be mad using them on the roads round here at the moment. |

No - as there are better products out there for the (large amount of) money, which are robust, more reliable, perform better and honour their warrenties. |
Des is of course right. |

Mine doesn't - only found out after I glued the tub on it's got a stray spoke nipple floating around inside... Took tub off, shook rim to remove spoke nipple, which then apparently glued itself to a bit of tub glue and stopped moving. Defied all efforts to find/remove it. Re-glued tub, half a mile down the road the bloody thing starts rattling again...
Looks nice though. |

Engineers - any further clue? I may be about to buy some normal wheels and want to know if I'm making a mistake when I already have deep sections? _________________ Have you got any Triple Sod? Yellow Bentines? What about some Clarky Cat? |

Clue to what?
They are faster on the flat, and on marginal gradients. (7/8% IIRC)
They cost a shyt load if you break them.
Braking is cack in the wet (CF is slippery).
Tubs are a hassle (relatively)
