So I'm told this is a common result of injury, anyone else have/had this, does it cause any problems and if you fixed it how? |

not really. 'winged' scapula is when the medial border of the scapula 'lifts' off the back of the rib cage and in most people it's weak infraspinitus, supraspinitus, teres minor and teres major, combined with over-tight pectoralis minor
but that's just a professional opinion _________________ wishing my bike fitted as badly as Rich Hill's ... |

The most common cause of a 'winged scapula' is a weak or under performing serratus anterior (other causes are as previously stated). If the problem arose from trauma (a fall) there is the likelihood that damage to the long thoracic nerve is the cause of serratus anterior inactivity. Serratus anterior can be strengthened through bench press (flat and incline), shoulder press and press-up.
Seek a professional assessment. It could save you a lot of time and /or inappropriate treatment. |

I have one from a crash many years ago on Dartmoor. Once the injury healed in the sense that the superficial trauma healed I've had no further long-term problems with a winged shoulder blade.
Just get on with it as they say. |
