Hi Guys,
Im considering a nice little ride out through town on saturday.
The plan is to ride from Walton on Thames to my parents place in Enfield.
Could anyone recommend routes or parts of routes, googlemaps suggests going through richmond-kensington-camden-holloway-wood green- palmers green-enfield.
Most of it looks ok, just wont want to stop anywhere in wood green!
thanks in advance

I do Battersea to Enfield quite often. I usually head for the V&A. Through Hyde Park,
Sussex Gardens
A40
Regent's Park
Camden
Finsbury Park
Manor House
then follow Green Lanes to Enfield.
From Walton it may be easier to go to Feltham,
Hounslow,
Chiswick
Hammersmith,
Kensington then follow the path from V&A as described above.
Don't worry about Wood Green. |

Thanks Terry,
That was roughly my route I was going to take and the only bad hill I can really think of will be the one coming out of camden?
How long does it take you from battersea at what sort of pace? |

The hill out of Camden isn't really that bad.
The first time I did it took a little while as I didn't have any reference points and I had no idea where I was going once I got north of Camden.
The next few times I've done it in anything between 60 and seventy five minutes. Depends largely on the traffic. |

Yes the hill out of camden isn't bad at all, i manage to get up it no problem on my fixed even if i'm completely knackered.
Just be careful riding through Wood Green on a saturday, there will be loads of dozy shoppers in their own little world _________________ "I think - therefore I'm single" – Liz Winston |

Or you could go via Kentish Town, Highgate, Muwell Hill, Friern Barnet, Southgate to Enfield, after Camden. A bit hillier mind, but fewer chances of being shot in Wood Green _________________ www.kentonrc.co.uk |

It's a problem almost anywhere (horrible happenings in Cumbria).
In London and big cities (Manc, the 'Pool, etc) mostly territory arguments between crime gangs, droogs, and so on. The danger is getting caught in the crossfire or mistaken id.
S.London can be a bit iffy in parts, as can the dodgier bits north of the river. _________________ Mexican underwater chili eating champion 1957

Well I made it!
2hrs 10mins from Walton-on-Thames to Enfield.
Nice ride all the way to camden, then it went a bit down hill (well up hill). still a good ride and was lucky with the traffic lights in wood green so didnt have to stop!
My route was quite nice, along the thames to richmond, through richmond park, down through putney over the thames and down the kings road, sloane square (looking at the fitties:D) then hyde park and up edgware road, past lords and through regents park, then camden and UP to holloway, down through finsbury park, wood green, palmers green, winchmore hill and through enfield town park to home. |

Well done
You can't be far from me then because I live about a mile from Enfield town park, sometimes I ride through it but it involves taking a one way street shortcut (although on a fixed I am allowed to do that )
Did you actually go through finsbury park itself or stick to the main road?
I have two routes I can take home but the main road one (seven sisters road/green lanes) is the one thats flat(ish)
If i take the scenic route (through the park itself) it's quite a lot hillier _________________ "I think - therefore I'm single" – Liz Winston |

My parents live just off of Bycullah, the otherside of chase green, how about you?
I rode through the bus lane and turned left at manor house, instead of going through the park, to many unruly staf's in finsbury park! |

It's uphill all the way from Camden to the M25. _________________ "Well done, you are 100% absolutely without a shadow of a doubt spot-bollock-on correct." - Tucker

Thats a few hundred metres from me then I'm off chase green avenue

It's on the seven sisters road. It's not steep but it drags for a while. It's actually worse the other direction (either that or it's just worse because I do that direction in the morning) _________________ "I think - therefore I'm single" – Liz Winston |
