Is there anything worth taking over winter to help boost the old immune system? I live in an old cottage with lots of drafts that would need major work to rectify, so it's easy to come down with something during the night.
Thanks. |

More likely to come down with something in a modern hermetically sealed house
I rate the odd hot toddy as remedy for draughty cottages |

I tried that last winter. Had about 6 chest infections/colds between October and March in total. May have had a dodgy batch though.
Ok, trying this from another angle. Do any of your wives/girlfriends/assorted other women take anything to help their immune system please, seeing as they can't MTFU. (Well, most can't.) |

I find being an antisocial ***tard keeps the colds at bay to some extent. That and avoiding flying, trains pubs etc. _________________ I was being chased by a police dog last week, and made the mistake of trying to escape through a little tunnel, over a see-saw and through a hoop of fire. Rather than waste your money on quack/snake oil rubbish the best way to avoid colds/flu etc during the winter is eat a healthy *CENSORED*, have a good sleep pattern and most importantly wash your hands regularly. _________________ Enjoy every sandwich. |

I've yet to see any evidence that 'boosting' your immune system would be a good idea. several diseases could come under exactly this description.
anyone who tells you that you can boost your immune system is likely to be about to direct you to a quack remedy that doesn't work. This on the other hand seems sensible:

Indeed, the focus shouldn't be on a boost. More like "make sure it works".
Any adoptive immunotherapy is based on a sample of your immune system when its working properly rather than overcompensation. |

Thanks for that, very interesting. However, I'm willing to try anything to try to avoid a repeat of last winter so will get some glutamine on Chrissylaa's recommendation, even if it is just a placebo. It can't hurt anyway. |

Have those anti-bacterial hand-rubs with you at all times and use them before and after you touch anything someone else has been in contact with. Apply some to your nostrils at regular (5 min) intervals. Wear a surgeon's mask at all times.
Hopefully you won't get a cold - and you may invent the world's largest plane/record the best ever selling album in the process... _________________ ... |
