And just for the record the E1 course that the Lea Valley 25 was held on is far from a dual carriageway - a lumpy single carriageway and to average over 30 mph on that is a stonking ride.
My best is 57-01 on there, which was when I was at my best and the week before I did my overall PB of 54-10 on the E72 (in the Redbridge 25 in 1993 which Matt won with 50-05). |
im not that convinced that matts previous course record was on that version of the course?
nino & me did a two up on there at the end of 2009 & we had to stop a mile from the end as nino smashed his front wheel up on a pot hole... we did a mid 54 that day
also he only took 4 seconds of matts 10 course record the day before.... |
I'm sure someone will confirm.
Incidentally, my 57.01 was on a slightly easier version of the course (didn't have to go all the way back up Kia-ora) - and it was a good afternoon in September - not mid March!!! _________________ Bally: Putting the @rse into Grass.

Because me saying I came first in my 25 and Alex coming first in the Lea Valley on the same course doesn't really convey a sense of how good his ride was now does it _________________ Bally: Putting the @rse into Grass.

a coach over took us & then braked hard to avoid another 2up pair..... we got stuck in its boot riding on the tops.... one pot hole on the course & nino managed to hit it! _________________ PNuT, who could forget PNuT

Oh, ok. Still.
Re the Jock Wadley - did he enter? It'd be strange if he was refused seeing as Sky riders were in the Eddie Soens, Lincoln GP and a few other events last year, and some Italian pro was in a NW event before the ToB.
But yeah, BC can be just as bad - look at the current Cicle Classic farce for one. |
i read somewhere that he wasnt allowed to enter... one of the comms on here will correct me if thats wrong! |
UCI have tightened their procedures, closing the loophole that allowed ProTour riders to ride a small number of lower category events. Result is that you'll not see ProTour riders riding smaller events in any country this year. |
How did this happen then...?

Instead of making elapsed time a measure, surely the differential is a more importnat measure of where you ar. So a winners differential is nil, and all others are at x minutes y seconds. Much more meaningful, and gets away from all the nonsense of "fast" and "slow" courses, "good" and "bad" days, because it's the same for everyone - or as close as can be - and would also dump the fixed distance requirement. Much too radical, I guess, for the main road in the traffic bashers. _________________ Mexican underwater chili eating champion 1957

the harder the course/day the bigger the differential.... it changes nothing... _________________ PNuT, who could forget PNuT

Was the 52'49 the one pictured on pg 116 of the comic a couple of weeks back with him taking a right hand junction in the right hand gutter of a 2 laned road?

Pic of him riding the 25 in last week's cycling weekly made me shudder - tearing round a bend on the wrong side of road, wrong side of the side of the road... Anyone know how much time you save in a 25 by not riding round the left hand side of the course?

Sorry didn't see your post.
Thought exactly the same thing - asking for a bad accident. Enough deaths in TTs already.... |

If you are talking about the photo where there are four Alex’s superimposed in a row then that was the Maldon Hilly and that corner was on a very quiet and exposed section of country lane. Everyone took the same line (although a lot slower obviously) and it would have been foolish to stay to the left at that point. _________________ mug source code table remote plate magazine gel |

Dowsett is flying and could well get comp record this year. However I read his twitter post after he did the Criterium International tt and was beaten by 30 seconds over just 7km. He said that he was taught a lesson in time trialling that day . _________________ mug source code table remote plate magazine gel |
