Now that LA has put his name down, who's going to win Le Tour, and why?
I'm going for Jan the Man, because he's powered by pies _________________ "Well done, you are 100% absolutely without a shadow of a doubt spot-bollock-on correct." - Tucker

Vinokourov will win...
because he is one of the bravest and most attacking riders out there..And Telekom will (should) ride with 3 leaders..
Cunego is up and coming, but not strong enough yet..
The Giro is NOT the T de F..
Just ask Simoni.. _________________ 73 |

Ullrich. Hes the one. He will go for it, and LA will be knackered from his 6 straight wins. I think this years tour will be the hardest fought one since the days of Hinault. |

Armstrong. I reckon a lot of his "will he, won't he" hasn't been compeltely stage-managed, I think he really did have doubts about beign able to win it again - he's probably been reassured by his form, and I don't think he'd be riding this year unless he was sure.
I have doubts about Ullrich ever being able to beat him when both are on form, Cunego will struggle for now in time trials, Basso doesn't have the killer instinct, and Vinokourov will have a bad day...
Having said all that I'd love someone to beat him when he's still at soemthing like his prime. _________________

Zackly what I said last year. And the year before...
So if I go for Cunego, Jan should win . _________________ "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." H. L. Mencken

I think Bjarne will instill enough self belief and confidence in Ivan to go for GC |

That would be a long shot, he would have to get past the 3 riders in his own team that are in front of him first.
I am voting (and hoping) for the pie man to get a second. |

Gotta be Klodi - the german is really staying out of the limelight, and he can time trial - sure he's already improving his technique over the off season. Jan will have to protect him and in doing so will get 2nd place on GC by paris.
1. Kloden
2. Ullrich
3. Armstrong
Thats my three penneth anyway. |

It has to be Armstrong - if you only loose 1% of your aerobic performance ability every year past 30 (typically) and he won by what, 6 mins last year, then it's a clean sweep.
No one who can match him on the climbs comes anywhere near on the Prologue, TTT and ITT's, so it's a slam dunk, luck not withstanding.
Vino is an outside bet for me, but worth a few quid - he must be seething to show what he can do and seems to be the only one who dares actually attack, and his weaknesses on long climbs and TT's may have been improved since his last tours with the additional development he's had in that time. Few mountain top finishes should suit him too. |

By the Bug Un I presume you mean the North Road Hardriders on 6th March?
We don't know who has entered yet but once we get the start sheet sorted I'll post on VR.

I guess Coggy wasn't entirely serious. I can't believe the faith in miracles some people have. "Ullrich this year, Armstromg is knackered"... That's whistling in the dark.
Yes it's been stage managed of course. But I've bimbled on about this before. If he can train scientifically and *CENSORED* (and he's got more willpower than all of us put together!) until he has 7.645 watts per kilo, then he's going to know he's going to kill them on the first mountaintop finish.
The team looks strong this year, and their discipline is legendary.
I don't think it's boring. Super-teams like CSC (and Voigt is worth 2 men - the Yates of the 90s/00s) and Telekom should provide a challenge as they batter themselves against Discovery. That's fun to watch. _________________ I don't enjoy golf. BAN IT. |
