Hmmmm...looks a bit plump doesn't he?
How does he get so ripped for summer?
Long training rides on water I once read. |

Having said that, he looks a lot less 'plump'
than previous off-seasons.
Would love to seem him win the Tour next year. |

I'll bet you £100 that Ullrich doesn't win the TDF next year. VR's have big mouths and no pockets. Now bet me on a one to one evens basis, and we'll no problem finding a fund holder. Come on wimp. _________________ 't Ros Beijaart.

I think Jan looks good for this time of year, but that hairstyle!
I'd love to see him win the Tour, and if I was a gambler I'd take PH on. But I'm not, so we'll have to wait and see. |

I think Jan just looks fatter in photos than he is. I met him at the Eddy Merckx dinner last year. What a brilliant bloke. And no one would have called him fat - he was just skin, bone and muscle. And OK he has been second numerous times but he is hardly a failure. Winner of Tour De France, Winner Tour of Spain, World Time Trial Champion, Olympic Road Race Champion, World Road Champion (was it Under 23?), until recently he had never finished a Grand Tour lower than second place. Just a great guy and I hope he can round off his career by winning the Tour next year before the next "dominant" rider steps up.
And then I hope - but doubt - he does a few years of German Sixes making some dosh and pleasing the crowds - not sure if he has ever ridden the track though?
All in all, Jan is my favourite rider I think. |

No, it was the last 'open' amateur road championship that Jan won. I think it was 1993, the same year Lance won the pro title. That was the first time I'd heard of Jan Ulrich. I think he was 20, maybe 19. Pure class. |

I thought Jan would become a multiple TDF winner, but he's always at his 'wurst' in the winter. _________________ 't Ros Beijaart.

Ullrich was raised in Rostock, in what was then East Germany. I seem to recall seeing photos of him in German magazines when he was younger, riding the track at Rostock. From what I know of the East German development schemes, I''d be pretty certain Ullrich will be familiar with basic track riding skills. And it would be cool to see him ride a "Six"!
Merry Christmas!
