For those of us with the handicap of a full-time job, what do you think is the best (safest) time to train during the week at this time of year?
Do you go out before work: when it's dark but getting lighter; when it's likely to be icy, and when drivers are rushing to work? Or do you go out after work: when it's dark and getting darker, when it impacts more on your family life, and when drivers are rushing home?
Discuss. |

Okay, let's assume we also use a turbo trainer, but want to get out on the roads when possible, and that we do not have the time or a shower at work to enable us to go out at lunchtime.

Having descended onto one of these devices recently I would say it is also better training till it gets lighter. _________________ Imagination is the war against reality.... |

At this time of year my training is done as follows:
(1) At the weekends
(2) Extended rides home after work
(3) Turbo training (if raining)
(4) "Road bikes on the track" floodlit sessions at Welwyn.
You will not get me getting out of bed to do an extended ride before work - oh no! _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof)

Before or after work its all the same. If you go before it was after and viesa versa I'll go for after. _________________ ''Racing is life, anything before or after is just waiting''..... Steve McQueen. |

I'm on a five hour split shift today. If I was still doing any training it would be ideal for that. |

What's the form for this, John? Start time, duration, intensity, that sort of info. _________________ "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." H. L. Mencken

Dunno. What's your point? What do you call training then?
My commute is 23 miles each way, and I usually press-on a fair old bit. Feels like training to me.
It's only an early year thing- afterwork chaingangs etc when the light improves a bit. _________________ The right to bear arms is slightly less ludicrous than the right to arm bears. (Chris Addison)

I don't get paid for the five hours I'm off work.
And to think, I could be driving young Tranter to Chester uni if I wasn't sitting at home instead. |
