It speaks volumes about the week that "just" winning a gold isn't enough to make the list... |

For me it was Chris coming back from Bos's first ride. _________________ ... |

Has to be Hoy, beating the best in an event that he's not a 'natural' at. Awesome.
I particularly enjoyed watching his 2nd round (I think) ride in the keirin too, three Ozzies in the heat and two of them were dropped off the back due to rhe seering pace! He makes an event that has always been probably the hardest event on the track to control look so easy it really is staggering, especially as he makes it look ridiculously easy!
I say that as a distance rider and a massive team pursuit fan, but Hoy's performance eclipsed even the World Record TP ride and the madison IMHO.
Respect is due to all our champions though, brilliant stuff. _________________ "Well done, you are 100% absolutely without a shadow of a doubt spot-bollock-on correct." - Tucker

I expected Chris Hoys performances.
For me the highlights were the Gold Vos won in the points, from the back and the Womens Team Pursuit with Rebecca, Wendy and Jo.
Most particularly I was delighted for Jo _________________ 'You are a free woman. You will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed (that you should be so lucky ) or numbered. Your life is your own.' |

For me it has to be the Madison
An opinion almost certainly tainted by the fact that a). It's by far my favourite event anyway b). Brad & Cav were just awsome and c). I was fortunate enough to be in the velodrome at the time to experience an atmosphere that can only be described as 'electric'.
One of those moments I know that I'll never forget. _________________ Blame me for robbing Peter but don't you blame Paul |

I do think it is a tactic that has some merit, gaining points in the sprints then going for the lap later on. Works for us anyhoo... Although Bradley was breathing out of every orifice... But it's all about putting in the effort innit _________________ Carbon is Real-er |

He was just immense - particularly after the last change before they took the lap, that was a picture of an athlete right on top of his game. _________________ Blame me for robbing Peter but don't you blame Paul |

I missed the madison so I've voted Hoys sprint win as the most exciting for me. I just thought that Kevin Sireau was going to do Chris in 2 straight wins and that he's have to settle for silver and for the rest of us it would be a bang back down to earth.
Glad I got it wrong! |

I have a photo of the two lads sitting in the stall just before going to their bikes for the first ride, the young Sireau has his head down and Chris is his usual head up.
I knew from their body language that it was Lord Chris's moment. _________________ http://gordonsingleton.com/ |

By the way, I couldn't possibly pick an individual moment.
Their was two weeks of life experienced crammed into 3 days.
I pick the whole week.............................. _________________ http://gordonsingleton.com/ |

Interesting; I remember a story of Jacques Anquetil giving Stephen Roche a bollocking after Roche had lost a TdF time trial. Anquetil's story was that Roche, by wandering about and chatting before the event, lost it before he started by not psyching himself up properly.
Is sprint racing that much in the head that a knowledgeable onlooker can often pick the winner in advance like you did? _________________ "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." H. L. Mencken

Roy, you have to remember that I've been around the sport for a long time now and seen many.
Part of my excitement this week was being down in the pit's. I was constantly hanging around the warm up areas. Thats where the races are won and lost. The atmosphere before the team sprint final was absolutley incredible as both countries France and GB where right next to each other.
Now that result was impossible to pre select with both countries pulling of personal PB's.
Jamie's opening 17.2 was "phenominal" ( the new catch word )
One moment that stands out in my mind was Chris losing his first ride to Bos in the quarters. Chris lost miserably there. I then watched him for an hour. This is where his biggest strength is. He wasn't even bothered and you could see that he going to go back out a draw blood. Which he did.
But after disposing of the Worlds best "Bos" he showed loads of confidence.
Great to watch and glad that I was there. (again) _________________ http://gordonsingleton.com/ |
